15 Creative Quotes to Get the Juices Flowing

When a creative rut happens, it feels as if all channels are blocked with a level of apathy. It can be frustrating if your job depends on your creative flow – or worse, when you feel your best when you produce, innovate, or create.

There are many ways to get out of the fog and back into a state of innovative stimulus. When I get writer’s block or an all around pause in my otherwise move forward spirit either in work or in my personal projects, I look outwards to others I admire.

I read, I listen to music, I watch a film that inspires me visually, I rest, I turn off the pressure.

Other times I resort to a quick pick me-up: quotes from the artists, writers, creators, and entrepreneurs I have looked up to.

If you need a quick injection to get back on the horse to continue creating, these quotes will definitely do the trick.

“Creativity takes courage.” – Henri Matisse

“What we think, we become.” – Buddha

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” – Sylvia Plath

“Thinking: the talking of the soul with itself.” – Plato

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” – Maya Angelou

“Hold fast to dreams / For if dreams die / Life is a broken-winged bird / That cannot fly.” – Langston Hughes

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.”  -Friedrich Nietzsche

“I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” – Ernest Hemingway

“I force myself to contradict myself in order to avoid conforming to my own taste.” – Marcel Duchamp

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” – Andy Warhol

“Imitation is suicide.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Anymore, no one’s mind is their own.” – Chuck Palahniuk

“Absurdity and anti-absurdity are the two poles of creative energy.” – Karl Lagerfeld
