Birthday Girl Reflections: What I Have Learned & Goals for This Year

Sooooo, it’s my birthday today. I have just turned 26 which feels as if I am slowly creeping my way out of my twenties. Not quite there yet, but I see a flicker of my thirties staring back at me in the far off distance.

I wasn’t too keen on celebrating my birthday. I sincerely wanted to skip the whole thing – not because I dislike celebrating another year but because I have so much going on with the wedding, so many events that require me to be the focal of attention. I sort of just thought, “Why make people do that again?”

Also, the excitement of a wedding coming up, a bridal shower in two weeks, and a bachelorette party in two months is entirely more exciting and novel than another birthday.

SO WITH THAT, my friends and family still whipped something up for me because, well, they are the greatest.

However, I am not just letting 26 come and go without some major reflection, personal inventory, and a check-in with myself. This year has been rocky but it has also been beautiful and liberating. It has been stressful and also wildly exciting. It’s safe to say I love looking back on my growth this past year and looking forward to what still needs to be done.

What I learned this year…

A bigger confidence in my career capabilities

A larger acceptance to who I really am, deep down inside

Willingness to accept help and to not feel guilty about it

I am doing a lot better than I think I am doing

Allow my perspective to catch up with reality: I am a lot farther in my business than my self esteem allows me to believe I am

Remind myself of my achievements often

Be willing to tweak your business as it runs based on what feels right, consumer reaction, and experimentation

Keep reading, never stop reading

I am ready for my next phase in life

My goals for my 26th year…

I have financial goals by the 3-month increment that I am striving to meet

Grow PODCAST by scout not only in readership but in diversity of guests

Publish my book (first draft almost finished!)

Enjoy my wedding and honeymoon to the absolute best

Become a wife, marry Adam

Feel even more in charge of my future and my actions

Read more magazines

Write more poetry

Resort to more natural remedies (essential oils, meditation, yoga, eating well)

Be the year that truly starts the next phase of my life

So with that, I am so incredibly excited for this coming year. With so many exciting things in store (getting married & growing the by scout brand), I can’t help but feel such gratitude for how lucky I truly am in life.

Thank you for all your birthday love and wishes!

Here’s to another year.
