I have been through it all – therapy, inpatient, outpatient, group, psychiatry. Through all of my experiences, something has always seemed to be missing in my recovery path (listen to me come out as bipolar disorder on PODCAST by scout) – and that is where alternative/natural healing modalities come into play.
If you are suffering from anxiety/depression or if you just have some toxic energy you are looking to rid your life of, alternative healing modalities provide a spiritual embrace for your soul. I think that, when paired with conventional avenues of healing, alternative and natural healing channels can largely impact your overall mood and spiritual threshold.
With that, here are my three favorite natural healing modalities.
I’ve said it once (here) and I’ll say it again: reiki is one of my favorite and most efficient forms of healing. I recount my entire spiritual awakening I had in a reiki session here but it begs to be restated.
Reiki can do wonders to push negative energy that is clogged within your body OUT and can reintroduce blissful, happy, and positive energy back in. Sounds heavenly, no?
If you haven’t tried reiki, this energy-healing modality is worth a try. Walk in with an open mind and allow your practitioner to guide you through the process. And then report back – I want to hear about your future energetically healing experience.
2. Essential Oils
Now, I am no expert on essential oils – I am actually quite an amateur and new to this area. However, the essentials oils that I have been using on a regular basis have helped me immensely.
I use three different essential oils: Lavender, Orange, and Grounding. The Lavender I diffuse every night as I read my book before going to bed. It helps me unwind at night and get into the slumber mood. I unwind with Lavender and a good book.
I use Orange when my mood needs a little pick-me-up. It is perfect as a happiness boost. And I use Grounding when I feel like I need to regroup and reroot (which happens multiple times a day).
Find the essential oils that speak to you and then apply them to your daily life as needed. You’ll find they provide that extra support you never knew you needed.
Most people don’t know that I got my yoga teacher training certification about seven years ago. I never actually picked up my certificate because I had no intention of teaching, but I did go through the entire process.
I was introduced to yoga by my sister when I was nineteen years old. Yoga instantly became a game changer for me as I let it work through my anxiety on a daily basis. I prefer hot yoga (not bikram, just about 90-100 degrees). I love the way the heat makes my muscles feel as I am flowing through a vinyasa.
Yoga is beneficial in so many ways (as I am sure you’ve heard) and the breath work needed to get you through a class is healing in itself. When a good head clearing is in need, yoga is where I galavant off to.
