What I Am Thankful For

As you all know, I am a big advocate of expressing gratitude and I attempt to recognize the things I am lucky for on a daily basis.

Thanksgiving just feels like a bigger platform to give thanks. Not one to turn down a gratitude challenge down, I wanted to outline some of the major things I have been grateful for this year.

The by scout Brand:

While it might feel like “by scout” started this past January, for me it has been brewing for years. I have walked down different entrepreneurial paths to get to this moment: I had a three-issue magazine run which was sold on newsstands and in Barnes & Noble locations across the country and I was brought on as the Director of Operations at a women’s media site. I have taken the off-beaten path (I attended a total of four colleges and graduated from none of them – I left college to chase my career) and I feel as if I am today a better person for it.

For those that are new, my “by scout” brand is compromised of my Instagram, my podcast, and here – my blog, REVUE. These three branches make up a greater brand that cares about mental strength, culture, women empowerment, and how to live an aesthetically and internally fulfilled life. Creating, running, and managing this brand has given me great joy and I look forward to etching away to make it successful next year.

My Health

If you listen to my podcast, you know I came out as living with bipolar disorder on Episode #17. But today I am grateful for my health – for where I am lacking in some areas, I am abundant in others. I feel as if I have really taken ahold of my mental illness this year and am treating it with the seriousness that any other disease would be treated with. I manage it on a daily basis and while some days are hard, others I feel stable and rooted. At times, I am grateful for the deck of cards I have been dealt. When it comes to being bipolar, it has opened my eyes – creatively and spiritually – to things that only come with a little bit of struggle. I am grateful that I am strong enough to fight.

To you, my community: I feel grateful for each and everyone of you. Cultivating a community of women that are passionate and creative hustlers means the world. You are also the reason this whole blog post, blog, podcast, and Instagram even exist. I curate for you and I hope we can inspire each other.

My Fiancé

He believes in me even when the numbers don’t. I have found someone who lets me chase my wild dreams and takes a load of the sacrifice that comes with it. He believes I can achieve whatever I set my mind to and he is my biggest cheerleader when I am brewing in doubt. I am so grateful that I get to marry him in just two short months. How I was given a partner in life so strong, loving, and insightful is beyond me. He challenges me instead of coddles and praises instead of doubts.

My Family

I have the most special family. They are big and loud and crazy – and the dynamics are enough to send anyone’s head spinning but they are also the absolute best and I consider us a true wolf pack. My family are the reason I am here right now in the position that I am in: soaked in opportunity and support. They raised me to take advantage of opportunities – or better yet, create opportunities for yourself. To my mom and dad: thank you. The air I breathe is sweeter because of you.

Cheers to this year – and the many, many sweet ones to follow.
